Mark Doherty began his career in the Controlled Environment Agriculture industry in 2010 when he founded Aqua Vita Farms, a 14,000 square foot indoor aquaponic farm in Upstate New York. Now with over a decade in controlled environment agriculture he has worked on over 300 indoor cultivation projects across North America. Mark's passion is for high tech, tightly controlled, indoor cultivation environments. With a primary focus on cannabis production Mark's experience with indoor cultivation also includes crops such as lettuce, basil, and tomatoes.
Mark held various roles from 2016 to 2021 with urban-gro, Inc., the last two years as the Executive Vice President of Operations. urban-gro, Inc. is a fully integrated architectural, engineering and cultivation systems integrator for commercial cannabis and food-focused indoor Controlled Environment Agriculture (“CEA”) facilities. During his tenure, Mark provided services to hundreds of cannabis operators, helped grow the company from 11 to 80 employees, participated in the NASDAQ listing and a $62 million dollar capital raise.
Mark has worked with many leading MSO's, Canadian LP's, and regional cultivation companies. Having been part of over 300 cultivation facilities, Mark is considered expert on successful investment, design/build, and operational strategies using the most advanced cultivation technologies for large-scale cultivators in both the U.S. and around the world.
Prior to joining urban-gro Mark was a partner at the cannabis consulting firm MedCann Advisors, where he provided services to applicants under the Canadian M.M.P.R. licensing process as well as companies in the U.S. seeking licensure in competitive bid markets.
Mark earned his BS in Business Administration from SUNY Polytechnic Institute and holds an MBA from the State University of New York.
Mark combines an extensive background in commercial-scale Controlled Environment Agriculture with a personally inspired passion for cannabis advocacy and access, to further the cannabis industry as a whole. Mark is passionate about helping cultivators achieve sustained economic success by integrating innovative technologies that drive down cost, increase economic yield, and reduce environmental impact. In this capacity, Mark is now working with innovative entrepreneurs, cultivators, and inventors bringing new companies, products and technology to the cannabis industry.
